PET – Reading – How to do part 2

In Reading Part 2 you have to match five people to eight different texts. It sounds simple but quite difficult as

  • Time is limited: you have only 6 ½ minutes.
  • There are many synonyms and paraphrasing to distract you.

However, remember, synonyms and paraphrasing are also keys for you to look for.

Noted:
There are usually three things that each person is looking for in their preferred place. You have to identify all the three things in the text that you want to match.

HOW TO DO THE TEST

Step 1: Read, underline and analyse what the people want

Read the first text, underline and analyse what the person wants.

Scan the text of places to find keys words that match his/ her need.

Then, find other two needs in the text.

Step 2: match the people and the place

If you can’t find the other two needs in the text above, pass it, scan the next text of places.

If you can find the other two needs, you have three things alike, you can match them now. Remember, it must be a perfect match of all three things.

Step 3: Repeat step 1 for the next person’s text.

Synonym Example:
If you are good you can eat with the adults.
If you are good you can eat with the grown-ups.

Paraphrasing Example:
Willy Wonka was famous for his delicious candy. Children and adults loved to eat it.
>> Willy Wonka was known throughout the world because people enjoyed eating the tasty candy he made.
